When you think about travelling abroad and stop to think about all the misadventures you could have, you probably think about losing your luggage, missing a flight, or maybe losing your passport. But, if you get sick or injured while you are on the shores of another country, you will have much bigger problems than any of those. Most companies will not treat you unless you can show proof that you have the ability to pay, and unfortunately, your American medical insurance will not do.
Most American health insurance policies will not cover you once you leave this country, so getting worldwide health insurance is something that you really should buy before you cross the border. It doesn’t matter what country you go to, even if it has socialized health care, you will still be required, as a foreigner, to provide payment onsite. If you are not able to do that, you may denied care and when you are extremely sick or in pain, this can be awful.
